If you think you can,You will do

Have you heard of Roger Bannister? He was the first athlete to run the mile in less than four minutes.

In doing so, he not only broke the four-minute barrier, but also taught us all a valuable lesson.

Back in the 1950's, the world record - 4 minutes 1.4 seconds - was held by Sweden's Ginder Haegg. The record stood for several years since it was set in 1945. Athletes, experts and the world were convinced that it was impossible to run a mile in less than four minutes. Some even argued that the human body was biologically incapable of running the mile in less than four minutes!

And then, on 6th May, 1954, Roger Bannister did the impossible. He broke the four minute barrier, finishing the race in 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds.

His rival - Charles Landy - had thrice run the mile in less than 4 minutes 2 seconds without breaching the 4 minute mark. The four minute barrier was "like a wall", Landy had said. But guess what? Just 56 days after Bannister's feat, Landy ran the mile in 3 minutes 57.9 seconds. And by 1957, 16 athletes around the world ran the mile in under 4 minutes. The 4 minute mental barrier was truly shattered!

What really happened? Did coaches get smarter and teach the athletes new techniques? Did running shoes get more sophisticated? Did bodies suddenly get stronger? No. The 4 minute barrier it turned out was not a physiological one - just a mental one! As Roger Bannister explained later, it seemed illogical that you could run a mile in 4 minutes and a bit, but not break 4 minutes. His mind refused to accept that barrier. That made all the difference.

Once that mental barrier was broken by Bannister, everyone believed it could be done! And once the belief changed, the rest was easy.

It's important to understand that our achievements in life are limited not by what we can do, but by what we think we can do. More than ability, it's our attitude that makes the difference. As Henry Ford said, "If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you are right".

You will probably find your mind constantly grappling with two competing thoughts: 'I can't!' and 'I can!' How do you ensure the 'I can' wins? How can we break our mental barrier of 'I can't'?

There was a man in Alaska who had a black dog and a white dog. His dog fights attracted large crowds. Every week people would bet on which dog would win. Sometimes the black dog won, and sometimes the white one. One lady noticed that no matter which dog won, the owner always bet on the right dog, and won each week. When the man retired the two dogs, the lady asked him the secret.

"Simple," said the man. "I always bet on the dog I had been feeding all week."

So whether 'I can't' wins in your mind or 'I can', depends on which thought you are feeding!

Feed the 'I can' dog in your mind. The thought you feed, grows! Focus on your strengths, and they will grow. Or keep thinking of your weaknesses and your fears. And unfortunately they'll grow too.

You won't always find a Bannister to break your mental barrier. You need to do it yourself. Once you start feeding the 'I can' thought, you will achieve more than you ever thought was possible!

As Demand for Engineers Grows, Experts Say India Has Only 10
To 30 Percent of The Qualified Instructors it Needs
Nachammai Raman
In a sign of growing pains within India's high-tech economy, the government last week slashed
the intake capacity of engineering schools by more than 25,000 seats across the country's private
university system.

A dramatic shortage of engineering teachers with doctoral degrees prompted the cuts. Various
experts estimate that India has only 10 to 30 percent of the qualified instructors it needs.
The shortfall is a product of India' s economic success story - as well as a peril to its future
expansion. High salaries and abundant jobs are attracting more students to engineering, and at
the same time wooing teachers away from classrooms and into the office parks that now dot
many of India' s southern cities.
"The gap has to be filled very shortly," says P. Devadas Manoharan, a civil engineering professor
in Madras. "Otherwise, the quality of education will come down."
While the jury is still out on the future implications of such engineering education problems for
India's booming IT sector, questions have already been raised about the quality of Indian
graduates in general.
A Merrill Lynch report in February from its Bombay office cites a study by McKinsey &
Company, a global consultancy, that suggests 75-80 percent of India's graduates are not
employable in the IT-enabled services industry, which could lead to a qualified labor shortage.
The cutting of engineering seats June 7 was ordered by the All India Council for Technical
Education (AICTE). This government body was established in 1987 to oversee the quality of
technical education in India at a time when private engineering schools were coming up to meet
the growing demand for such training.
Private engineering institutions have spawned all over India because the government has not had
the funds to increase significantly the number of engineering schools it runs. In 1970, India had a
total of 139 engineering institutions, and only four of these were private.
Today, India has nearly 1,400 engineering institutions; only about 200 belong to the government.
This explosion in higher education has allowed many more Indians to pursue an engineering
degree.
Tushar K. Nath, director of AICTE's southern regional office in Madras, says that seats were so
few 20 years ago that only 1 percent of aspiring students got in; today, nearly 70 percent manage
to find places. But the wider availability of engineering training has come with a dilution of quality. "We had
gone for extensive inspections. Many institutions could not satisfy standards," Mr. Nath says.

Crowded Classrooms
Overcrowded classrooms are the chief problem. Defaulting institutions were given until July 7 to
meet the required teacher-to-student ratio of 1:15. Advanced degree holders are difficult to find,
so schools are recruiting more faculty with bachelor's level engineering qualifications.
According to AICTE sources in New Delhi, many schools want the seats that they lost back,
after recruiting teachers with bachelor' s level qualifications to meet the required teacher-tostudent ratio.
Adinarayana Kalanidhi, a former vice-chancellor of a government university in Tamil Nadu,
welcomes AICTE's regulatory function, but says its approach to solving the problem is
misguided.
"If an industry is [faltering], the government comes forward to support it. But when a private
engineering college has problems, it's going with a police stick to beat it up."
Deprived of student fees by mandated cuts in seats, private institutions founder in financial
troubles and close down. "So the good intention with which you permitted them to participate in
education is lost," says Mr. Kalanidhi.
Prior to the opening up of India's economy in 1992, industry jobs were not as plentiful, so
students pursued advanced degrees to secure teaching jobs, which commanded respect. But
vigorous job growth in recent years has left few takers.
"About 20 years ago, when I came into teaching, the salary for a university teacher was on a par
with the salary outside," says Mr. Manoharan.
A Matter of Incentives
Today, a fresh engineering graduate can get paid twice as much as an assistant professor who has
spent a minimum of six extra years and a hefty Rs. 300,000 to 400,000 ($6,896 to $9,195) more
to earn his master's degree and PhD.
Kalanidhi decries the lack of innovative mechanisms to motivate graduates to become
engineering teachers. He describes a program he helped start in Punjab that allowed lecturers
with only a bachelor's degree to attend master's programs part-time.
He holds up a teaching research associate (TRA) program - similar to teaching assistantships in
the US - he implemented at a government university in Tamil Nadu as another model.
Instead of hiring new faculty, he assigned each TRA two undergraduate courses to teach. It
carried a monthly stipend of Rs. 8,000 ($186), which helped offset the high cost of the PhD
program. Nath suggests that private colleges sponsor their teachers for advanced degrees in foreign
countries, which have far more graduate engineering programs than India, and then bring them
back to teach. He also urges high-tech businesses to set up endowments or grants to benefit
engineering institutions in India.

How to create multiple domain on localhost

How to create multiple domain on wamp

There are two files involved:

- hosts (this file is in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hostes)
- httpd.conf (this is in your Apache install’s ‘conf’ folder – mine is c:\wamp\Apache2\conf\httpd.conf)

When you open the “hosts” file, you will see this line at the bottom:

127.0.0.1 localhost

All you do is make another entry underneath it for your self as you want:

127.0.0.1 name.sirname #Use whatever extension you want

and save the file.

Now open httpd.conf and copy, paste below code and save file

NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1

ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot "C:wamp/www"

ServerName name.sirname
DocumentRoot "C:wamp/www/name"

now open browser and name.sirname in browser, index page of name folder will appear ...keep coding

Php is more popular language

PHP is a popular scripting language that has gained prominence in the past couple of years. It has an increasing number of users. Its open source nature makes it all the more easier for people to learn and use it. Since it is open source, PHP can be used extensively by web developers.
What was originally intended to give developers a personal web programming language, has grown to a full-fledged scripting language. PHP has the capability to run online websites with distributed databases.
PHP is expanded as Hyper Text Preprocessor. It is a scripting language and works on the server as well. When web pages are made using PHP, the interpretation of the language is done on the server side, which is not the case with HTML.
Using PHP, web developers can communicate with databases, and servers. They can also create text and images on web pages. PHP code combines well with HTML code to reach browser programs and make the browser still read it as a HTML page. So there are no requirements for PHP interpreters installed on the system of users.
PHP works in any environment. It supports many web servers and databases. Since it works well with Apache web server and MySQL, it is very popular. PHP is supported by an open source community that is able to make a difference. They are collaborative and quick to respond to further developments.
PHP will work on any operating system. Be it Windows, Linux or Mac. You can also segregate the HTML code. Which means you can code separately and design separately. So development times is faster. You can also change the design of the website anytime without changing the code.
When you join the PHP community, you will find that most of them are keen to develop this technology. While interacting with them you will get to learn a lot of things. Their erudition and technical prowess will rub you the right way.

Social activist Anna Hazare, who entered the second day of his indefinite fast, today slammed the Congress for “misleading” the people by dubbing his agitation as unnecessary and premature.

72-year-old Hazare, who is demanding enactment of an anti-corruption bill to give wider powers to the Ombudsman, said, “The party’s (Congress) statement is misleading people.

Why is this agitation unnecessary and how is it premature? 42 years the nation has been in need of such a bill. Why can’t the government enact it?”

He asserted that he would not end his fast unto death till the government agrees to have citizens’ participation in the drafting of the legislation.

When pointed out that the BJP too had embarked on an anti-corruption campaign today, the reformist said the party was taking advantage of the nationwide movement he had begun.

“But, they are a political party and are free to do as they wish. In the past too, when I agitated against corruption in the BJP government, the Congress party supported me. Now, it’s the other way around”, Mr. Hazare said.

Yesterday, BJP leaders Maneka Gandhi and Prakash Javadekar visited Hazare’s protest site at Jantar Mantar but did not make any speeches.

JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav too sat on the dais with Mr. Hazare and offered his support for the Jan Lokpal Bill and even said he was ready to take it up in Parliament.

Mr. Hazare said he would not allow politicians to sit with him on the dais anymore.

The anti-corruption champion began his fast yesterday and has been joined by thousands of people.

Hazare said he did not have faith in the government or any political party and decided to take things in his own hands.

“How can they say I am using pressure tactics. Just as we sought an audience with the Prime Minister for the Jan Lokpal bill, we also tried to meet Sonia Gandhi. She did not even reply”, Mr. Hazare claimed.

On the response from the Prime Minister, the social activist said, “He (Prime Minister) should not turn a blind eye towards corruption in his government and should muster the courage to not succumb to the pressures of coalition politics“.

He said this protest was different from his previous ones as he saw a national uprising against corruption.
